Brief Description

The National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Act was signed into law by the President on 24 May 2024. This landmark legislation establishes a National Council as a statutory body to provide strategic leadership in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa. The multi-sectoral Council will involve government, civil society, labor, business, researchers, and academics to strengthen national efforts with a more inclusive, focused, and well-resourced approach.
